Glasgow Younger Persons Support Service, Counsellor: Contract: 1 position, Permanent, 21 hours per week
Alzheimer Scotland are looking for three experienced and qualified counsellors. Two will become part of our new National Dementia Counselling Service working alongside our 24 Dementia Helpline. This service will provide professional counselling for people with dementia and for families and carers of people living with dementia who are adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Counsellors will focus on supporting people with dementia and families and carers who are experiencing overwhelming stress, isolation, depression, anxiety loss and bereavement during the pandemic.
The other counselling opportunity will work as part of our Glasgow Younger Persons Support Service. The focus of this role will be to provide counselling support for people with a younger onset dementia and their carers and families.
These posts will initially be home based, once the public health restrictions are lifted we would expect the Glasgow position to be based in our Bridgeton Dementia Resource Centre and the 2 National posts can be agreed at a later date.
These are exciting roles which require a degree of flexibility and an ability to work on own initiative.
Successful applicants must have a recognised Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling and be a member of the BACP or suitable equivalent professional body. You will have a positive approach to dementia. You will also have excellent interpersonal skills, a caring attitude and ability to plan and organise. A willingness to learn and participate in training is essential. Relevant qualifications and/or experience of working with carers will be an advantage.
