Community Activities Organiser - Lochaber
Job description
Community Activities Organiser - West Highland; Lochaber
Contract: 1 Position, Permanent, PT 21 hours
Make a real difference: help us to make sure no one goes through dementia on their own.
Join us at Alzheimer Scotland as the new Community Activities Organiser for Lochaber. This post is central to our success in planning, organising and facilitating social,
recreational and therapeutic activities in a community setting. We want to ensure that people living with dementia are encouraged to participate in a wide variety of activities, designed to enhance their quality of life and well-being.
A key role of the Community Activities Organiser (CAO) is to consult on the preferences of people living with dementia in order to plan, organise and facilitate those activities that will best support their outcomes. It is crucial that the Community Activities Organiser works in collaboration with defined colleagues in understanding the community and identifying the types of activities that will suit.
There is an expectation that the hours of the role will be worked flexibly to meet the needs of local people living with dementia, carers, the groups and local area, with the potential for some evening and weekend work.
This is a new post for Lochaber and as such will initially operate from home whilst an office base is sourced in Fort William with the understanding that most of the work of the Community Activity Organiser will be outreach from home/office base as groups and activities are developed.
Applicants will have an understanding of the aims and values of Alzheimer Scotland supported by excellent communication and networking skills; have an empathic, caring, positive attitude, a creative flair; hold a recognised professional qualification and/or have relevant experience with a willingness to learn and participate in training (including SVQ's) is essential. Relevant qualifications and/or experience of working with people with dementia would be an advantage.
Successful applicants will have a positive approach to dementia.
